Please help the VCBF happen in October!

Most non-profits are struggling to stay afloat while still providing programming, and the VCBF is no different. In these unprecedented times, we need your help to survive. Will you please donate today and help keep the VCBF going? We need your help.

The Best In children’s literature, for everyone.

The Virginia Children’s Book Festival believes that reading is for everyone, and nothing enriches a life like being a reader. That’s why we are dedicated to creating a culture of readership for all Virginia’s children, regardless of circumstances.

Each year we bring the best of the best in children’s literature to the campus of Longwood University, and we keep it free to you. Our three-day festival is exciting, engaging, and FUN, and we want you to join us.

Our programs

The VCBF is more than a book festival. Our outreach programs happen all year long, and we strive to reach more children, teachers, librarians, parents, and families each year. And more than our programs, the VCBF distributes thousands of free books to children each year, because no child should be without books of their own.

Our READcart brings the books to YOU. Fully articulated, on wheels, and chock full of books, our READcart can be at any downtown event where families gather.

Hip hop

What better way to engage teens in reading than to put it in a hip hop context? Our Hip Hop in Children’s Literature program uses this incredible tool to create lifelong readers.

good night farmville

Our newest intitiative is designed to bring bedtime reading into your home. Weekly bedtime stories read and posted on social media ensure children don’t miss out on this vital part of their development.

live mural

The LIVEmural is is collaborative illustration at its best. Muralist Monty Montgomery and a VCBF illustrator work with children to create a 6×16 mural each year, which we then donate to an organization that serves children.
