Virginia Children's
Book Festival

About the 2021 Event

Join us virtually in 2021 at the Virginia Children’s Book Festival (VCBF). Throughout the month of October, we’ll be hosting a variety of virtual events that will offer children the opportunity to connect directly with nationally prominent authors and illustrators as well as award-winning works of children’s literature. Our wealth of programming is geared towards science fiction, illustration, hip hop, the graphic novel, and more. Most importantly, we’ll nurture a love for the written word that will last children a lifetime.

What makes the VCBF different? We want to inspire and strengthen a love for reading among all students.

Virtual Event - October weekdays at 1 pm EST

Why the VCBF?

Diversity. Our diverse selection of best-selling authors represent a range of backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultures, as do their works. Through a number of genres, mediums, and subject matters, these writers bring to life characters that will appeal to a variety of interests.
Accessibility. The virtual VCBF is free and accessible for everyone from anywhere via the VCBF website. All of our virtual events are free.
Award-winning Authors. The VCBF has grown into the largest bookfest on the East Coast, regularly drawing a diverse lineup of national award-winning authors and illustrators of children’s literature. We’ve hosted New York Times bestsellers, Caldecott and Newbery nominees, and beloved creators of children’s series. Some of our authors have included Sophie Blackall (Ivy & Bean), Tiffany Jackson (Let Me Hear a Rhyme), Victoria Kann (Pinkalicious), Jeff Kinney (Diary of a Wimpy Kid), R.J. Palacio (Wonder), and Jason Reynolds (Ghost).

About VCBF

The Virginia Children’s Book Festival team is a group of dedicated volunteers that works tirelessly to bring opportunity to every child, regardless of circumstance. Founded by Juanita Giles and Katie Snyder in 2011, the VCBF has grown into the largest children’s book festival on the East Coast. In addition to providing our centerpiece festival free of charge, the VCBF donates thousands of books each year, established libraries at juvenile detention centers, operates a mobile READcart, provides programming for children with special needs, produces an annual mural project, and more.
